Fight To The Finish In Faith

Today’s lesson comes from “2nd Timothy 4:7” which says, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Today’s thought is “Fight To The Finish In Faith”

A story is told about John Akhwari who was sent to represent Tanzania in the marathon at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.
While competing in the marathon in Mexico City, Akhwari cramped up due to the high altitude of the city because he was not use to running at such an altitude back in his country and his training had not prepared him for doing so.

Almost halfway through the 26 mile race, one of the passing runner hit John. John fell to the ground, badly wounding and dislocating his knee, and smashing his shoulder hit hard against the pavement. However, he got up and continued running.

About an hour after Mamo Wolde the Ethiopian runner had finished the marathon race and all of the other 56 runners had already crossed the finish line; after most of the spectators and television crew had left the stadium, a message came that the final runner was in sight. As John finally crossed the finish line, a cheer came from the small crowd.

But it was the interview a few moments later, which left a resounding impression with many people.

The reporter look at him and asked, “Why did you continue running when after all that happened to you today, you could have easily given up?

John looked the reporter square in the eyes and said, “My country did not send me 5,000 miles to start the race; they sent me 5,000 miles to finish the race.”

God did not send you into the earth only to start the race of faith, but to push through to the finish. Life sometimes knock us down with unexpected blows; we take blows to our finances, blows in our relationships, blows in our careers, blows in our health etc. But everytime we get hit and fall down, God extends a loving hand and says, “Get Up My Child, The Race Is Not Over Yet – You Must Keep Running To The End Because The Crown Is Only Given At The Finish Line”.

Hold onto your faith in God today, no matter what comes your way, His strength is made perfect in your weakness and by His power, you must keep moving forward towards your finish line.
